How to create pdf files

Creating high-resolution, print-ready Portable Format Documents (PDF's)

PDF is a file format that represents a document in a manner independent of the hardware, operating system and application software used to create the file. PDF's enable documents to be transferred and shared across computer platforms.

Creating PDF files with Adobe Distiller

Distiller creates a PDF file from a PostScript version of a document. A PDF file created by Distiller maintains all the formatting, graphics and photographic images from the original document, and usually provides higher quality output than PDF Writer.

For Distiller to be able to create PDF files, you must have a PostScript printer driver on your system set up with PostScript printer description (PPD) file.

Step one, Create a PostScript file

1. Open your document in the application it was create
2. Choose file> page setup, choose PostScript printer and click OK
3. Choose file> print, and click option "save as file"
4. Choose PostScript job from the format pop-up menu, enter the PostScript options you want, click save.
5. In the "save as" dialog box, enter the name and location you choose for the PostScript file, and click save.

Step two, Converting PostScript file to PDF

Start Adobe Distiller, download the "Prinergy pages job options file" here and place in the settings folder situated in the Adobe Distiller application folder. This folder will enable Distiller to create PDF's which are suitable for printing.
Under "job options" in the Distiller window, choose "Prinergy Pages". Drag the PostScript icon into the Distiller window. The PDF file has the same name as the PostScript file, plus the extension ".pdf", and will be stored, by default, in the same folder as the PostScript file. You now have a print ready file, ready to send.
